A Few of Those Hated Things

by Paula Boyd*

(Tune: My Favorite Things with apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein)

Labels on beakers
and cracked watchglasses
Problems I can't solve when sitting in classes
Numbers I add that don't mean a damn thing
These are a few of those confusing things

Burets and pipets
and aqueous solutions
Weighing and stirring and mixing dilutions
Flames from my Bunsen that melt everything
These are a few more annoying things

Chorus:
When the acid spills
When the flask breaks
When the smells get bad
I simply remember I hate Chemistry and
That's why I'm going mad.

Acids and Bases
and crystals and gasses
White paper filters that burn into ashes
Hydtratedcarbons and Benzoic rings
These are a few of those nerve wracking things.

Ammonia and nitrates
and stuff that is caustic
Aprons and goggles made from some kind of plastic
Hazardous junk that will kill anything
these are just more troublesome things.

Chorus:
When the acid spills
When the flask breaks
When the smells get bad
I simply remember I hate Chemistry and
That's why I'm going mad.
